Crazy Couple and Their Dog

A very festive couple in the Mardi Gras parade.  She is sporting a pink boa which matches her hair, and a mask.  He is dressed, I believe, as a crawfish.  The doog looks like he is trying to look like he's not with them.

Sword Woman

I decided it was time to try something more geeky, so I tried to draw a lady samurai.  She turned ok ok, not great but not too bad.  The sword got a little wonky.  Overall I think it turned out alright, but I'm hoping the next one turns out better.

Hooded Figure

A hooded figure walking a a crowded sunny street.  Not an image you see every day.  Actually this guy was part of a group of larpers who were taking part in a parade.  I thought his costume was pretty cool.

Relaxing

This one turned out pretty good.  The chair is a little weird but the woman isn't bad.  I don't know who relaxes in a bustier, but hey it's my drawing...

Having A Lovely Time

The guy on the right looks like he's just having the best time ever.  He just cracked me up.  The rest of the picture is not very interesting, but he makes the whole thing work for me.

Mobster Gal

It's probably just the hat, but for some reason when I finished this I thought she looked like a female version of a mobster.  I think this one turned out alright, more comic booky than cartoony.  As a life long fan of comics I am okay with that.

Have Some Beads

Caught this guy in mid-toss.  The fact that he's got this super fancy mask on and then just a regular shirt and jeans cracks me up.

Anticipation

She is excited and nervous at the same time.  What was about to be done to her?  She didn't know and she had to admit that it was thrilling.

Happy Face

She looks like she's laughing at a joke she just remembered.  It's nice to see people smile.  Especially if they don't know that someone is looking.

Ahhhhh!

I like this one.  I think it turned out really well.  I like how it is open to interpretation. Is she gasping in shock or surprise?  Is she moaning in pleasure?  Does she have a toothache?  You decide!

Groovy In Green

I like this outfit.  It reminds me of a jester suit, but updated.  I also like masks and capes, but that may just be the geek in me.

DJ Baby Groot

Baby Groot spinning mad beats yo.  Isn't that how the kids put it?  If you are a fan of the movies you probably know what scene I was copying on this, replacing an explosive device with a turn table.  I should have had his finger on the record I guess, I don't really know how being a DJ works.

Gettin' Down

This lady was dancing to the tunes coming from a nearby portable cd player.  She should have hooked up with the dog from my other pic.  She was cutting loose and having fun and didn't care who was watching, which is the only way to live in my opinion.

Young Lady

It's not a great title for the post, but hey I'm tired and it's been a long day.  So back off, okay?  Geez.  Anyhoo, some of the few corrections I made are still very visible, but overall for a quick sketch I thought this one turned out okay.  Someday I hope to get enough free time that I can sit down and really take my time with something, but I don't see that happening anytime soon, so you'll continue to be subjected to sketches drawn from pictures that catch my eye.

Floating Wizard

Okay, so I know he's just a larper, but look at his feet guys.  HIS FEET ARE TOTALLY NOT TOUCHING THE GROUND!!!  He's walking on air.  Burn him!!! Kill him with fire!! He's a witch I tells ya!  Anyway, this dude is a larper who was in a parade and the camera caught him at just the right instant to catch this fun pic.  Oh, and if you see this man, please don't hurt him.  I was onlhy playing earlier.  I shouldn't have to say that, but people are crazy, so...

Chess

I got off on my count, so you may notice there are two white squares adjacent to each other.  Oh well.  The lines are a little crooked as well, just I did this free hand and didn't use a ruler or anything.  It's a good thing I don't make any claims at being good at this.  Still I think it turned out ok.

Fabulous

A couple of Mardi Gras revelers dressed up for a day and night on the town.  And of course they are ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!  That hat is the best and I am loving the shimmery cape.  It is obvious that these two know how to have a good time.

Joker

The Joker from Batman.  Not much to say about this one, other than of course this is one of the classic comic book villains.

Dancing With The Pooch

There was music playing and this lady was dancing with her dog.  The dog looked like it was super happy.  It was a fun moment and I'm glad I captured it.  The dog was a better dancer than me.

Greaser

You can probably guess what celebrity's photo this was modeled on.  Tried to put the right side in shadow, didn't really work out that well for me.  This may be the first time though that I used a celebrity photo as a model and the celebrity was recognizable when I finished.  Haven't been practicing as much as I'd like lately due to being caught up with other things.  Got to get back on track.

Crudite Bus

I am not sure why this bus says crudite on the front.  Maybe it is filled with raw vegetables to snack on?  I don't know, bit it is big and bright and purple so I had to get a picture.

Smoking Nun

It seems there is something that people love about the pure and chaste girl doing something "naughty".  Looking at the picture with her closed eyes and the bent cigarette, I thought about writing a story to go with it, but thought it was more fun to let it tell it's own story.  Maybe you have a story for it that you'd like to share?

Flags

This is a parade float with flags from countries from around the world.  I think the point is that if you take away the fake barriers of borders, religions, and race, we are all just humans, brothers and sisters making our ridiculous way along on this planet.

Thinking Deep Thoughts

Just a woman thinking the deep thoughts of life.  What happens after this life?  Why does evil exist?  Where did I leave my keys?  I think this one turned out pretty good.  Some of the pencil marks were light and almost didn't scan, but in spite of this I think this may be my best drawing yet.

Mardi Gras Couple

Some Mardi Gras revelers on the street.  The lady is trying to hustle some beads, though obviously not in the traditional way but instead by just asking.  Oh well, this parade was a family event.

Tree and Moon

I saw the moon behind a stunted and twisted little tree and decided to try to draw it.  I like the sort of abstract way this turned out.  Overall I think I am pretty pleased with this one.

Little GTO

I took this one for me because I thought this old GTO was the coolest.  But then I really liked how it turned out and decided to share it.I wish the rear end hadn't got cut off in the pic.  I love how the color of the car looks here though.

Space Explorer

A female space explorer, based on old pulp magazine covers.  Could have been better, once again a little rushed. This is another one that I might circle back around to.

A Giant Chicken Meets A Well Dressed Pooch

It's not every day you see someone in a chicken suit petting a dog wearing a vest and hat, so I had to immortalize this moment.  I think future generations will thank me for it.

Naughty Angel

A quick sketch I did of a naughty angel.  I thought I liked it, but now that I see it here I see like a million mistakes. Oh well, it is what it is.  Actually I kind of rushed this one.I should have spent more time on the wings.  But this was really more of a doodle anyway.  Maybe at some point I'll do a more fleshed out version.

Mardi Gras crowd 5

This one cracks me up, because the little girl in the pink jacket is not even touching the ground.  It looks like she is so excited that she is hovering.   Kids always make for fun crowd shots anyway IMO.  I like this one.

Collared

Another one that is a little naughty.  Unfortunately the mouth and teeth went a little weird on me, causing her to look a little bit like an inbred moron.  No offense to any inbred morons who might be cruising this blog.  Maybe this pic will get me a whole new audience in the inbred moron demographic.

Mardi Gras crowd 4

Another shot of the massive crowd at the celebration.  You can see that they fill the street, and the crowd went on for blocks with small pockets of space like the one I found myself in when I took this pic.

Wonder Woman

Another contribution influenced by my geeky side, this is a picture of Wonder Woman that I modeled on a photo of Lynda Carter as that character.I think this one turned out really good.  Wonder Woman looks a bit tired, but maybe she has been fighting against the evils of man all day.  BTW, if you are a comic book fan, read my article about my favorite comic books.

Mardi Gras crowd 3

There was a swarm of people just walking the street.  Luckily traffic had already been blocked from using this street.  It was a pretty good sized crowd.

The End of a Long Day

This woman looks tired, like she is having a smoke at the end of a very long day.  Hence the title.  Little bit if an issue with the right eye, otherwise I thing this one turned out pretty good.  In fact I think it may be the best one I have done so far.

Taking a picture of the girl taking a picture of me

This one caught my fancy because I noticed that when I took the picture there was a girl right in the middle of the shot taking a picture of me with her cell phone.  It is meta or something.  That makes this otherwise kind of boring crowd shot interesting to me.

Veiled

I was originally going to draw a woman in a full hijab, but this seemed more exotic to me, just a veiled face with the hair showing.  I went almost abstract when it came to the body, the face was my primary focus on this.  It has some rough edges and some problems, but overall I kind of like it.

Mardi Gras crowd 2

Another shot of the crowd at Mardis Gras.  There is a lot actually happening in this picture.  Kids grabbing for beads, the lady about to put on one string.  You can see part of a parade float, but alas not one of the interesting ones.  There will be some of the parade itself to come.

Blindfolded

I had a little trouble with the mouth on this one, but overall I like the way it turned out.  Of course, part of that may be because it's a bit naughty.  I like art that is suggestive without being graphic.  And boobs are fun to draw, but that comes as no surprise.

Mardi Gras crowd

The crowd at the local Mardis Gras celebration.  That balcony was packed.  As crowded as it was down on the street I was happy to not be up there. There were a lot of interesting people that day.  There will be more pics of this day to come.

Face

This was part of a larger drawing that starting going wrong.  So I decided to salvage what I could, which was mainly the face.  Not very good, in fact maybe a step backward for me, but I decided to share everything and so here it is.

Rocky Hill Top

Another rocky hilltop.  You may have noticed by now that barren landscapes and dead trees hold as much fascination for me as do lush forests and blossom laden bushes.  This time of year it is the former that tends to be more available, so that is what dominates my photos for now.  For those of you who prefer greener nature shots, fear not!  Spring is coming soon.

Mandalorian Helmet

It was only a matter of time before my geek side came through on here.  This is a quick sketch I did of a Mandalorian helmet from Star Wars.  Again, scanning it in and seeing it in a larger digital version the faults really stand out.  But seeing what I did wrong is part of the learning process.  Oh, and if you are a Star Wars fan, you should read my articles about the dark side of Star Wars, the Droids and Ewoks cartoons, and that time the Muppet Show predicted the future of the Star Wars franchise.

Barn on the Hill

I had a tough time with this picture.  I had a shot in mind, but I couldn't get the angle I wanted without losing some visibility of the barn. Unfortunately there is a major highway about 2 steps back from where I took this.  Otherwise I think I would have gotten the shot I wanted.  As it is, it is almost right.

Female Silhouette

I liked the cowboy silhouette, so I decided I'm going to do some more of those.  Unfortunately once I scan them in flaws that weren't so noticeable in the pencil and paper version become very obvious.  Still, I like the look of these, and it is easier than drawing in all the detail.

Treetops

It's a weird angle, and with the empty trees there was something in this picture that reminded me of a horror movie.  I have to be honest, though, I am looking forward to spring a return of color to my outdoor photo excursions.

Queen of the Scene

The names for the posts are starting to have less, to do with the actual content of the pictures, because let's face it, how many times can I call something Woman's Face?  Also, there was something about the picture that to me suggested someone who was trying very hard to be fabulous.

Bluff

This is the kind of bluff I like to stand at the top of and pretend I'm an Indian scout.  With the winter trees this has a desert look, but this is in the south, far from any deserts.  Nature still makes the best art.

I've Just Seen A Face

I draw a lot of women's faces, I know, but what can I say?  I like women.  This one is better than most I have done, but I still have a hard time with the nose.  I named it after a Beatles' song because I love the Beatles, even though the picture's not good enough to warrant the association.
