Comic Book Lady

This was my attempt to copy a particular villainess from an old comic book.  I think it turned out pretty well.  She looks a bit more Asian than I intended, but overall looks pretty much like I wanted her to.  I seem to do best when I don't even worry about making them look realistic.

Ranch Gate

It strikes me as funny to see some of the ornate gates at these out of the way ranches that no one will ever see.  But since they put so much effort into making it look nice, I guess it's the least I can do to photograph and share it so everyone can appreciate it.

Quick doodle

This was just a quick thing I doodled, but it reminds me of those celebrity sketches that used to be in T.V. Guide, I think the artist was named Hirshfeld or something like that.  So even though it's pretty sloppy, I decided to share it anyway.  Besides, all the drawings here are pretty sloppy if I'm being honest.

Cows at the Pond

I really just wanted a picture of the pond, but I couldn't convince the cows to move on.  It having been such a cold day, I'm surprised they wanted to hang out by water, even if it is such a small amount.

Bald Lady

Originally, the plan was to go back and give this lady hair, but I found her intriguing as is.  I don't know, maybe it's because I had a crush on the bald lady in the first Star Trek movie, but I have always been fascinated by bald women.  And you know, it's really not fair that only men get to pull off this look.

Old House

A perfect setting for a horror movie.  I love old houses, the creepier the better.  I think given the right time of day, etc., this house could be suitably creepy.  At least I know I wouldn't want to spend a night there, for a few reasons.

Lady Looking Up

I have a hard time with eyes and hands, the former being on display here.  There was also something strange going on with the nose.Hopefully soon we'll start to see some payoff of practicing.  Oh well, who knows, maybe someday I'll be considered an artistic genius and these early scratchings will be priceless.

There is just something about trees in winter, sans foliage, that I find aesthetically pleasing.  I'm sure it says a lot about me and my psychological state.  If so, there will be plenty of evidence of my instability on here.

About To Kiss

I'm not sure what happened with his lips, but at least you can tell what is happening, or about to happen at any rate.  This is the first male character I've drawn in a super long time.  I just find females more interesting both to draw and to look at.

Some horses grazing by a very cool tree.  I got cabin fever and went out and braved the cold to take some outdoor shots.  I'll be posting some more tonight.  You can tell it's the middle of winter because there are no leaves to be seen anywhere.

Rekindling the Flame -A Poem

I hear her sleeping close beside me
And think back to when passion flamed
Remembering a million tiny moments
Whispers soft and sweet as a rose petal
Caresses both as light and as heavy as a careless word
Eternal glances fraught with meaning
Now all subsumed in life's minutiae
Work and school and meals to be made
Love and passion have not left us
But lies dormant waiting to be rekindled
And so I turn to stoke the fires

Smiling Lady

I think this has been one of my better efforts.  Her face still looks a little cartoony, but not as bad as some of the others.  The weird space in the fingers bugs me.  But I am taking the tactic of finish, learn from and move on.  Otherwise I am afraid I would spend the rest of my life trying to perfect one picture.

Blue Flower

A close up of a blue flower.  I rather liked this one, and if the ground around it had been grassy or not dead looking I might have tried to do something with it.  I think the flower is rather striking with the way it is colored.

Ha ha, I didn't even realize how comically bad the lady on the right's face is until I uploaded this and enlarged it to fit the frame.  Anyway, this is a picture of two ladies sitting together.  In the photo it was drawn from they were modelling something or other.  I am afraid I owe the two very lovely ladies an apology for not even coming close to doing them justice.  Faces are hard, they always look too cartoony.  Nothing for it but to keep at it.

Yellow Flowers

A close up of some yellow flowers.  I don't know what kind of flowers they are, I never really learned that kind of stuff.  The glare from the sun is a little too harsh, it almost washes the flowers out.

Singing Lady

Looking at this now, I can see that this could be taken to be dirty.  But no, I assure you this is just meant to be a woman singing.  This one turned out alright, with the exception of her freakishly large nostril.  I should probably also have made it more obvious that she is in fact not naked.  Or maybe the illusion of nudity adds to its appeal, who knows?

Wood Face

I saw this guy in a garden and had to get a picture.  I get a very Tolkienesque feeling from him, like this is how Treebeard would look.  This picture just makes me all sorts of happy.

This was part of a larger picture, but I could not get the face to not look horrible, so I decided to make it a smaller picture of just the legs and torso.  Still not exactly master work, but tolerable.  I have to work on making the fingers not look so cartoony.

Clown Fish and Anemone

Taken at an aquarium, because I am not nearly bad ass enough to take pictures under water.  It's really hard to get a good shot at an aquarium and not have flash glare or reflections ruin it, so I am especially proud of any good fish pictures we get.  One of my favorites is the jellyfish picture that we have up for sale, but this one is pretty good too.

Masked Lady

This has been one of my better efforts.  It's drawn from a photo of a masked woman wearing a dress and gloves.  I changed the mask into having a sort of devil horn, because I didn't want it to look like a bad rendition of Catwoman.  The fingers are a little weird, but other than that I am really happy with this one.  Of course due to holiday madness I haven't drawn or taken a photo in a month, so now all my progress is likely lost.  Oh well, learning is most of the fun.  If I was just naturally expert, I probably wouldn't even enjoy it.

I don't know if I have mentioned before, but I have a weird fascination with bridges.  I just think they look romantic.  This is a small foot bridge over a creek.  Both the bridge and the creek are gone now in favor of some big blocky buildings.  Go progress!

Weird Face

This drawing of a face went wrong, but I just went with it.  I actually kind of like it, even if it is shaped oddly.  Something about it makes me think of Bowie.

Hay Bales

Some hay bales.  I wish the lighting had been a little different on this one, I think it could have been really good if the sun had been shining from the other side.  Didn't turn out too bad tho.  It's been so cold lately I haven't gone out taking pictures, and I'm beginning to jones.
